Four Phases

Written Against the Ohio Pool Year

A pool in Northeast Ohio has four distinct phases, and the questions change completely between them. So the blog follows them rather than publishing whatever is topical nationally.

Written from the bench, against the month it is actually happening in.

01

Late Autumn and Winter — the Closed Season

Cover care, freeze damage, and the work worth doing while the pool is out of use: heater replacement, automation upgrades, planning a liner for spring. This is also when an indoor pool’s problems are the only ones anybody has.

02

Early Spring — Opening Season

When to open, what a professional opening actually includes, what to have inspected before the water goes back, and the equipment faults that only reveal themselves on the first run of the year.

03

Late Spring and Summer — the Running Season

Water chemistry, pump and filter problems, keeping water clear through a heat wave, and the equipment failures that arrive at the worst possible moment.

04

Late Summer and Early Autumn — Closing Season

Planning the close before everyone else does, custom cover measurements and lead times, and the end-of-season repairs that are cheaper now than in April.

We publish through the year rather than in bursts, which is a commitment rather than a boast: pool questions are seasonal, and a post about opening a pool is worth very little in September.

Out of the Work

Who Writes It

The posts come out of the work — 30+ years in the trade, 50+ years across the team, and about a quarter of it commercial, which is where a lot of the less obvious material comes from.

For what we do, see services and the towns on service areas. If you are here in autumn, the two pages most people want are pool openings and closings and pool safety covers.

Straight Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

How often do you publish?

Regularly through the year rather than in bursts, and weighted toward the seasons when pool questions actually arrive — opening in spring, closing in autumn. Pool advice is time-sensitive: a post about opening a pool is worth very little in September.

What is the difference between the blog and the resources section?

The resources are reference pages — buying guides and cost explainers you come back to when you are making a decision, and they get updated rather than replaced. The blog is shorter, tied to the month, and often prompted by what we are seeing on pools that week. Where a post needs the full explanation it links to the guide instead of repeating it.

Do you write about above-ground pools?

No. We do not service above-ground pools, hot tubs or spas, so writing about them would attract exactly the enquiries we have to turn down. We would rather be clear about that than collect traffic we cannot serve.
